The Artist Behind the Work
Pottery has become my vehicle for self-expression. Through clay, I explore texture, form, surface and the quiet exchange between material, process and the surrounding environment.
With a background in Art Education and many years as a teacher of the Arts, my practice draws on painting, printmaking, life drawing and mixed media. These influences give depth to my ceramic work and allow each piece to evolve with its own character and presence.
Exhibitions & Recognition
- Exhibited at Gold Coast Regional Gallery and Murwillumbah Regional Gallery, NSW.
- Recipient of the People’s Award at the Hervey Bay Regional Gallery Artisans Exhibition in 2019.
- Awarded 1st Prize in 3D at the Bundaberg Art Prize in 2024
- Recognised at the Wide Bay Potters Convention with Overall Judges 1st Prize and a Highly Commended award in 2025
The Work
My ceramic work is intuitive, tactile and process-led. I begin with an idea, but I allow the clay to respond and evolve, so each vessel or wall piece carries its own sense of movement, texture and story.
Across my collections, I explore irregular forms, layered decoration and surfaces shaped by gesture, instinct and experimentation. The result is work that often sits between vessel and sculpture, grounded in clay but deeply connected to memory, landscape and transformation.
Hand-built
Each piece is shaped by hand, allowing form, texture and surface to develop naturally.
Process-led
I work intuitively with clay, responding to the material rather than forcing a fixed outcome.
One of a Kind
Every work carries its own surface, structure and history of making.
My Story
Pottery has been a constant anchor throughout my life, from my school years and university training through to the present day. Over time, clay has become the medium through which I can bring together the many creative threads that have shaped me.
My training in Art Education and experience as a teacher have given me a broad visual language that continues to influence my ceramics. Painting, drawing, printmaking and mixed media all find their way into the surfaces, marks and structures of my work.

A little about me
My practice has been shaped by a lifelong connection to the arts and by a deep respect for clay as an expressive, earthbound material. I’m continually inspired by landscape, texture, colour and the unexpected beauty that emerges through process.
I was also influenced by my uncle, British sculptor Ralph Brown, whose commitment to form and material has remained part of the wider creative background of my work.
